This is what Episode 9 would have looked like if I was writing it. Wrote it last year when I did a ‘What’s Up in the World Today’ episode on Solo to challenge myself to see if I could actually make the Last Jedi a good movie. Fair warning, this is def a rough. general outline of what the movie would be and doesn’t follow any actual professional format, just me writing out my idea. My dream would be to sit down with a bunch of other creatives, take this outline and put our ideas together to turn it into a kickass movie. There def things in my idea that need to be fleshed out more like the new evil, I don’t give any names or introduce specific characters. Those things I wanted to leave for me and my team to figure out.
But I think there is enough for people to enjoy and get an idea of what my version of Episode 9 would have looked like. Thanks for reading!
STAR WARS – Episode IX – To The Future
-Movie starts.
-Aboard Kylo Ren’s ship, Kylo arrives and is greeted by the Knights of Ren.
-Kylo reveals that he has Luke Skywalker held captive and we learn that every scene of Luke in the Last Jedi was a projection to eventually make people think he was dead and ruin his reputation. Kylo knew that if he killed Luke then Luke becomes a martyr so he devised this plan to capture and discredit Luke eventually making people forget about him.
Kylo also won’t kill Luke bc he does not want Luke becoming more powerful. “I won’t make the same mistake Vader made with Obi-Wan.”
Kylo keeps Luke confined with only a select few knowing the truth and is torturing him with the same device Vader used on Han in Empire.
Chewbacca has left the others to begin tracking Kylo Ren’s ship and has finally found him. Chewie sneaks aboard and overhears Kylo talking about having Luke so Chewie sends word to Rey
Kylo Ren flies his ship into a forest planet(not Endor) to try and secure control as it has vast resources the First Order requires. At night during the pouring rain, Kylo is in the middle of crossing a bridge high above ground when he sees Chewbacca appear at the end of it.
Kylo Ren(mask on): I had no choice. He was a bad father. This has nothing to do with you, don’t do this.
Chewbacca: *roars*
Kylo Ren nervously takes his mask off: There. It’s off. Let’s talk about this.
Chewbacca activates an electric staff similar to the guns used by Stormtroopers in TFA.
Kylo Ren: Chewie you were my best friend growing up, please I don’t want to kill you.
Chewbacca gets into fighting stance.
Kylo Ren: CHEWIE DON’T DO THIS!
Chewbacca charges and they have an epic fight. Kylo Ren tries to avoid killing Chewie but when Chewie starts to win, Kylo has no choice but to end it by putting his lightsaber through Chewie’s chest. We see in the first moments after Chewie’s death that this is going to have a huge affect on Kylo Ren emotionally and mentally but he quickly hides it when the Knights of Ren show up.
Back to Rey who is wondering if the news about Luke is true and not a trap but when she learns of Chewie’s death, she knows it is true. She figures out a plan to board Kylo Ren’s ship to rescue Luke and enlists the help of the only man she knows isn’t on Kylo Ren’s side, Lando Calrissian. With Lando’s help, Rey is successful in boarding Kylo’s ship undetected while Kylo is on the forest planet. Rey finds where they are keeping Luke and subdues the guard, a skilled warrior loyal to the sith that gives Rey a great fight.
Luke is absolutely stunned that Rey was able to figure things out and track him down. She gives credit to Chewie and informs Luke of his death. Luke tells Rey the real story of how his new Jedi Order fell – Ben Solo was seduced to the dark side not by the sith, but by a new, unknown evil trying to gain power. Ben made sure that Luke was not in the temple the day of the attack. Luke was away, in the beginning stages of training his daughter. This new evil used jealousy towards Luke’s relationship with his daughter to infect Ben Solo and turn him to the dark side.
Luke blames himself be he wasn’t there and he didn’t sense it. Luke knows it was bc he was ready for a sith Force disturbance but this was something else. Luke thinks he should have been studying instead of teaching and maybe he would have caught this disturbance before they destroyed all of the young Jedi he was teaching. By the time Luke arrived to the temple, it was too late the massacre was already over. Luke found a wounded survivor that managed to stay hidden and discovered the truth about what happened, Ben Solo opened the gates and orchestrated the attack. They slaughtered everyone and wouldn’t stop until they finished with Luke and his daughter.
Luke knew he couldn’t do what needed to be done now with a young child, so he made the heartbreaking decision to separate. But he also knew that if they had any chance to defeat this new evil, his daughter must live to become a Jedi. So Luke placed her on a planet that would cause her to struggle and fight for survival, but she would become strong and skilled. And one day she would be strong and skilled enough to leave that planet and come looking for him. So Luke left a map to where he would be, studying this new evil to find a way to defeat it until the day his daughter finally found him. That would be the day it becomes Luke’s time to enter the fight. But unfortunately Kylo Ren used this new evil to find Luke first and execute the plan we saw play out in the Last Jedi.
Rey is in tears now, asking what this means.
Luke: It means my daughter, is you Rey.
Rey: No. That’s impossible.
Luke: No, I am your father.
Rey now crying:…….why did you leave me…..
Luke: I’m so sorry but it was the only way. They would have found us and killed us both. But I needed to study this new evil and you needed to become strong. To become a Jedi like your father, and his father before him.
Rey: I’m going to save you.
Rey and Luke make their escape using a new Jedi invisibility technique to disguise their presence that Luke has learned during his studies. Luke with help of Jedi like Yoda and Qui-Gon, was able to learn a great deal about this new evil, what they want and how to deal with them. Luke reveals their ultimate plan to Rey, to extinguish all natural light sources and replace them with artificial sources completely controlled by this new evil, forcing all life forms to forever rely on the dark side for survival.
When Rey talks about the “force projections” she has been having with Kylo Ren, Luke is very concerned as this is a power from the new evil and tells Rey never to engage in it again no matter what. Luke reveals that this new evil has a huge hidden army ready to destroy their galaxy but that isn’t the worst part. This new evil has been communicating with other forms of evil in other Galaxies and together they have created a machine that will open a door allowing an ungodly large and powerful evil army into their Galaxy. With the Jedi Order non-existent and extremely low head count in their army compared to what they would be facing, they wouldn’t stand a chance.
Luke says the machine has not been operational as they lacked a rare crystal to be able to harness enough power to open the door but they have found it and the crystal is on it’s way to the location as they speak. Luke knows how to destroy the machine but at this point no pilot alive could navigate a ship through the shortcut required to get there before the enemy. Poe Dameron speaks up and says he can do it, he just needs a ship. Lando is there and ready for 1 more ride in the Millennium Falcon but they will need an escort and the Rebellion is happy to oblige.
Luke & Rey go to confront Kylo Ren as Luke believes there is still good in him. Luke tasks Finn with rebuilding an army somehow. Finn is having ok results recruiting until he hits the jackpot, his best information guy tells him of a hush-hush rumour he heard about an underground Jedi Order. Finn is extremely sceptical but is running out of options so he has to check it out. The rumour turns out to be fact as Finn finds an underground Jedi Order led by a female student of Luke’s who escaped the massacre. She used what training she had to start teaching anyone willing to be a Jedi and had amassed a good sized group. Bc of the minimal training they had access to, they were in desperate need of a Jedi Master to complete their training but regardless, they are combat ready.
Kylo Ren has been deteriorating mentally after killing Chewie, his life-long best friend with whom he shared many great, fun adventures. He is really struggling greatly with it. For the first time, he sees no future he wants with the dark side and is now ashamed of being responsible for the death of his father and Chewie. Ben Solo wanted a better legacy than that. He has been going through this alone bc the Knights of Ren were now completely loyal to this new evil and if they found out his conflict, they would kill him.
Luke & Rey arrive and surprise Kylo Ren with his mask on in the throne room. Before Kylo Ren can reveal his conflict, Rey cannot control her anger and attacks. Luke senses Kylo’s conflict and pleads with Rey to stop, she even knocks Luke down at one point. Rey gets the upper hand and is about to kill Kylo Ren with her lightsaber at his heart but Kylo pleads with her,
Kylo Ren: Please. Let me take my mask off. I don’t want to die as Kylo Ren.
Rey still has her lightsaber held at Ben’s heart but she senses his sincerity and pulls the lightsaber away. Ben Solo is left with a burn mark that goes into the skin showing how close Rey came to killing him. Ben says they must leave now, rally as many troops as they can and head to another location bc there is more than 1 army coming and they need to stop both.
Back at the rebel base, Ben Solo is met with mixed emotions but after an epic speech from Ben and being vouched for by the trusted leadership, he is ultimately welcomed as they will need his skills. We learn the devastating news that upon learning of the death of Chewbacca at the hands of Kylo Ren, Princess Leia collapsed and they could not revive her. Luke is heartbroken but makes the decision not to tell Ben what led to it until after the battle as they must win to see another day. Luke, Rey and Ben almost fall over when they meet the underground Jedi Order and their numbers. Since there was a limit to how much they could train, they focused on another important task; collecting kyber crystal so they all have cool versions of lightsabers. Luke decides to teach them as much as he can in the little time they have and we get a great moment when Ben sits down to learn.
Poe puts on a show with his flying skills getting to the machine and successfully completing the mission by destroying the machine. But unfortunately, doing this required a Bruce Willis in Armageddon type death for Lando as he dies setting off the explosions that ultimately destroy the machine and save the Galaxy.
Poe as he fly’s away with the explosions in the background: Godspeed buddy, may the Force be with you.
As they prepare for the Battle for the Galaxy Far, Far Away, Luke tells the underground Jedi Order that they are all Jedi now and the Force will be with them today. Finn is given control of the army and assigns Generals to lead the different attacks. In a crazy twist during the battle, the First Order turns on the new evil army and starts fighting with the Rebellion, dropping their First Order flags and revealing Rebellion flags in their place. The leadership of the First Order communicates that this new evil threatens them all and it’s time that they all fight together. Poe arrives with his escort towards the end of the battle to help finish them off and our heroes fighting together win the day defeating the new evil army.
Luke, Rey, Ben, the undergound Jedi Order leader and a few other Jedi go to fight the Knights of Ren and the best warriors of the new evil. Epic, duel of the fates, type fights. The leader of the underground Jedi Order dies saving Ben’s life but Ben has his non-lightsaber hand cut off in the fight. Big moment when Ben finally confronts the Knights of Ren;
Ben Solo: Kylo Ren is dead. My name is Ben Solo and I am a Jedi.”
Ben ignites his cross-lightsaber which is now green instead of red and despite losing a hand, kicks the absolute shit out of them at the end. Luke has a cool sequence using 2 lightsabers, his green one and Anakin’s blue lightsaber but can’t hang for long and is out of it meaning Rey’s skills are pushed to the absolute limit. Rey has a great finish when a KoR thinks he has her and takes big swing but Rey pulls a Johnny Cage doing the splits to make him miss and as she comes up puts her lightsaber through him.
All our heroes re-unite to celebrate the balance that Anakin has brought to the Force. You see the balance doesn’t mean that there will be no evil, the balance means that there will always be a Skywalker around to fight for Good and battle evil. No matter what evil rises up, there will always be a Skywalker there to defeat it and it started with Anakin. They set up the new world to be an amazing, prosperous, peaceful place but still preparing for conflict with the dark side of the Force when evil rises up again. The celebration is subdued as it is also saying goodbye to Princess Leia but still upbeat as she wouldn’t want them to be sad and would be happy they won the battle and that Ben was back to being Ben again. Luke never does tell Ben what led to Leia’s collapse.
During the celebration, Luke, Rey & Ben see the Force ghosts of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Yoda and the leader of the underground Jedi Order. But they are all brought to tears when Han, Chewie, Lando and Princess Leia all get their own Force Ghost and join the others. Movie ends in a montage of Luke teaching, Finn leading, Poe flying, citizens all over the Galaxy enjoying life, a shot of the binary sunset, Rey & Ben flying the Millenium Falcon and the final shot is them shooting into hyperspace.

So there is my version of Episode 9, hope everyone enjoyed reading it. Like I said, some stuff is very general and would def get more explanation if I was actually making the movie. Basically I wanted to try and save Luke Skywalker’s legacy that I feel was ruined in the Last Jedi and I think I was able to accomplish that. I also wanted to try and move into new territory which is why I introduced a new evil and not another sith character. I know they want to end to Skywalker story but I feel they could go on if they wanted so I wrote and ending that both wraps u the story and leaves room for future stories.
I knew I would not be getting an actual opportunity to make this movie but I had a lot of fun writing it. Man what a dream it would be to make Star Wars movies esp now that Disney is giving creators more freedom with the stories. My hopes and expectations are so low for The Rise of Skywalker it’s scary. I know they won’t be retconning all of what the Last Jedi did, best we can probably hope for is Rey’s parents story getting a better explanation. They will get 1 more theatre ticket from me as I have to see them in theatres but that’s it.
Sad bc they put together a great crew of actors that were more than ready to make great movies, they were just totally let down by the writing. But I’m praying they somehow made RoS good and everyone can enjoy this final chapter. Love, peace and safety to all during the holiday season! Merry Christmas! And may the Force be with you…
